Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Ferus Incorporated (Calgary, Alberta), a privately held company that provides cryogenic fluids to the energy industry for well stimulations, well completions and enhanced oil recovery, is planning its first plants in the United States and British Columbia.

The U.S. plant will be built in the Gateway Industrial Park near Jenkins, Kentucky. The $30.8 million plant initially will be capable of producing 200 tons per day of liquid nitrogen. The site will have a 20,000- to 30,000-square-foot warehouse to be used as storage and distribution to customers' facilities, or directly to well sites. Cosmodyone (Seal Beach, California) will be the supplier of the liquid nitrogen unit for the plant, which is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2011.

The Canadian plant will be built in northeastern British Columbia in Dawson Creek, and will be Ferus' first plant in this part of Canada. The company currently has two liquid nitrogen facilities that they own and operate, one in Joffre, Alberta, and the other in Strathmoor, Alberta. The new $20 million plant will have an initial capacity of 200 tons per day. Cosmodyone will supply a liquid nitrogen unit for this plant as well, and the plant is expected to be completed by the end of 2011.

Ferus recently celebrated the opening of its fourth liquid CO2 plant. The other three are in Elmsworth, Empress, and Rimbey, Alberta. The $15 million facility is in the Sherritt International Corporations refinery complex in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta. The plant captures gaseous CO2 by-product from a nearby ammonia process, liquefies it, stores it, and transports it to customers in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin. The plant began operations in late 2009, and since then has been operating at or near full capacity.
