Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Sigma-Aldrich (NYSE: SIAL) (Saint Louis, Missouri) broke ground in August for a grassroot fine chemicals plant to be located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin (Plant 1055648). The massive project known as "The New Teutonia" will replace their existing downtown production plant. See archived IIR Industry Alert titled Sigma-Aldrich Plans Relocation For Fine Chemical Plant for more information.
CG Schmidt, Incorporated (Milwaukee, Wisconsin) has been hired as the engineering and construction manager for this project. The project will include adding new research and quality control areas, production labs, and packaging areas by expanding its existing 610,000 square foot building by 174,000 square feet as well as refurbishing 55,000 square feet for office space (PEC 19001017).
The Total Investment Value (TIV) of this project is estimated at $65 million and is the largest in Sigma-Aldrich's history. Construction is expected to be complete in January 2005, but relocation of their existing downtown location will not be complete until July 2005 due to their current lease agreement. The immense move is required due to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT) and their extensive plans to reconstruct the City's Marquette Interchange of freeways through downtown Milwaukee.
Sigma-Aldrich, a leading life science and technology company, is headquartered in Saint Louis, Missouri with annual sales of $1.2 billion. With operations in 34 countries, they manufacture organic intermediates, custom products and active pharmaceutical ingredients for pharmaceutical and industrial companies worldwide.
