Flint Hills Resources LP Plans to Expand Crude Unit in Minnesota

Flint Hills Resources LP (Wichita, Kansas) plans to invest $70 million at its Pine Bend Refinery to expand the third crude unit from 100,000 barrels per day (BBL/d) to 120,000 BBL/d. The company will revamp the entire unit and add several pieces of new equipment. The purpose of the expansion is to allow the refinery to process additional Canadian sour crude oil. Jacobs Engineering Group, Incorporated (Pasadena, California) is currently performing engineering and also will handle procurement of equipment for the crude expansion that is expected to begin construction in June of 2006. Chicago Bridge & Iron Company (Woodlands, Texas) is the on-site contractor that will perform construction services for the project through the fall of 2006.
