Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Florida is home to the Miami Dolphins, the Everglades and Disney World. It is also home to fourth-quarter kick-offs for 56 projects worth $2.45 billion. However, just one passenger railway project accounts for 62% of the estimated investments.
Industrial manufacturing projects, including the passenger railway, lead the way in investments, with six projects valued at $1.54 billion.
With a total investment value of $1.5 billion, Phase I of the Miami G-R All Aboard Florida Passenger Rail Project stands far above the rest.
Florida East Coast Industries LLC (Coral Gables, Florida) plans to upgrade 195 miles of existing freight rail along the eastern part of the state to passenger rail, connecting Miami and Orlando. The project is intended to reduce customer travel time and increase commuter passenger potential. It includes stations in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, and an elevated rail in Miami. The project is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of 2016.

The next largest project with a fourth-quarter kick-off is the Tampa Port Dolphin Energy Grassroot Offshore Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Receiving Terminal, which carries an investment price tag of $450 million. Port Dolphin Energy LLC, a subsidiary of Hoegh LNG (Oslo, Norway), was awaiting the results of a market analysis for the deepwater project, which is to be located 40 miles southwest of Port Manatee. Completion is scheduled for the third quarter of 2016.
Power-related projects that await a fourth-quarter kick-off total 17, with $148.9 million in investment value. The largest of these is the $50 million project to install an electrostatic precipitator system (EPS) to curb air pollution at Florida Power & Light's (Juno Beach, Florida) 2,663-megawatt (MW) Martin County Power Station at Indiantown. A Siemens AG (NYSE:SI) (Munich, Germany) EPS system would be installed on the boiler of 863-MW, fuel-oil-fired generating unit in order to meet government environmental standards. The project, now in preliminary engineering, would see completion in mid-2015. Florida Power & Light is a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Inc. (Juno).
