France's Alstom Gets Turkish Power Plant Maintenance Contract

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Alstom S.A. (Euronext:ALO) (Paris, France) has won two contracts with a combined value of more than 220 million euros ($253 million) for the supply and maintenance of the power island at the 950-megawatt (MW) Kirikkale combined-cycle power plant, located in the central Anatolia region of Turkey. The plant is expected to be commissioned in May 2017.

Kirikkale Independent Power Project (KIPP) is being developed by Acwa Güç Elektrik Işletme ve Yönetim Sanayi ve Ticaret (ACWA Guc), a subsidiary of ACWA Power (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia), which includes Samsung Construction and Trading Corporation (Seoul, South Korea) as a shareholder. KIPP is a greenfield project located within the municipality of Kiliclar in the Yahsihan District, in Kırıkkale province, 15 kilometers from Kirikkale City Centre and 50 kilometers east of Ankara. The project will operate on a merchant basis to sell the power via bilateral contracts and in the balancing/day-ahead market.

Alstom will supply the main power train equipment components, including two GT26 gas turbines, two heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), one steam turbine and three turbo-generators to Samsung Construction and Trading, which is responsible for the engineering, procurement and construction on a turnkey basis.

Alstom also will provide installation and commissioning field advisory services to Samsung during the construction phase and ensure long-term maintenance services for up to 20 years after commissioning.

"We are proud to bring our deep knowledge and expertise to this project," said Steve Meszaros, Alstom's senior vice president of the Gas Business. "With its operating flexibility and high efficiency, the GT26 gas turbine will play a critical role in generating maximum project returns for our customer."
