Frito-Lay Invests $16 Million to Expand Rosenburg Plant

Frito-Lay Incorporated (Plano, Texas) as division of PepsiCo (NYSE: PEP) (Puchase, NY) will immediately begin the installation of a new $16 million fried corn chip line at their Rosenberg, Texas plant. Processing and packaging equipment will be installed inside an existing production building to expand production of Frito-Lays line of Cheetos Snack products. Upon its completion in February 2002, the new line will add approximately 35 jobs and increase the total site production capacity to more than 84 million pounds of snacks annually.
Kevin Brightwell, Frito-Lay Operations Director, said The city of Rosenberg has been a strategic partner for growth over the past 7 years. The company has invested over $57 million since it opened and has grown its workforce from 294 to the planned 485 employees.
The 400,000 square foot plant opened in 1982 and produces a variety of Frito-Lay's top products such as Lays Potato Chips, Ruffles, Fritos, Doritos and Tostitos. Frito-Lay Incorporated is the worlds largest snack food company with annual sales of over $11 billion in 2000.
