General Motors Corporation (NYSE:GM) (Detroit, Michigan) is closing three tooling centers in Lansing and Pontiac, Michigan, and Mansfield, Ohio, and investing $20 million to consolidate its tooling operations at the Grand Blanc, Michigan, tooling center, near Flint.
Relocation of employees will begin in early 2003, although the revamped Grand Blanc facility will not reopen until later in the year. The three plant closures will affect 285 employees at the Lansing plant, 225 at the Pontiac plant, and 130 at the Mansfield plant. GM expects the consolidated operations at Grand Blanc to eventually employ 600.
