Georgia Pacific Naheola Mill Going Down for Major Repairs and Turbine Rebuild

Overall, downtime at the Naheola mill will last through the third week of March, with the converting plant down for a day, paper machines as much as four days, and the power and recovery area as much as 22 days. Apart from routine maintenance repairs and overhauls, the company will perform some small capital projects, including a rebuilding of the No. 3 turbine generator, which is a 41-megawatt (MW) GE non-condensing steam turbine, and is the larger of the mill's two other turbines, each designed for approximately 15 MW.

Operations at the Naheola mill began in 1958. Georgia Pacific acquired the mill in November 2000. The mill produces over 650,000 tons of pulp, paper, and paperboard annually on five paper machines and two paperboard machines, with full-converting capability.
