Grandpuits Refinery in France Readies for 2011 Total Planning Overhaul

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Total S.A.'s (NYSE:TOT) (Paris, France) 100,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) Grandpuits Refinery, located in the Ile de France region, is scheduled to undergo an overhaul in February 2011. The Grandpuits Refinery is one of the six refineries Total operates in France.

The future turnaround, which will entail mainly cleaning and inspection, will concern the two main areas of the refinery: the Conversion area and the Distillation area, with 19 operational units in all.

Although the overhaul is expected to last approximately 45 nonproduction days, the Distillation area is planned to be offline for only 25 days; a major turnaround was performed in this area in March 2008.

Created in 1966 to process incoming crude from the Paris area, the refinery produces a wide range of products such as naptha, gas oil, fuels and bitumen. However, only a small part of the crude comes from the Paris region; currently, most of it comes from Russia and via pipeline from the Havre port in the northwest area of the country. General maintenance overhauls at the refinery are performed every six years.
