Gunze Plastics Plans $21 Million Expansion in Kansas

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated). Japanese-owned, Gunze Plastics & Engineering Corporation (Olathe, Kansas), a subsidiary of Gunze Limited of Osaka, Japan is planning a $21 Million expansion of the Olathe Kansas plant (Plant 1061993).

Located on South Hamilton Circle, the company plans to expand their existing 19,000 square foot plant by adding a 50,000 square foot building addition to house new machinery for a new product line. The new production line will produce partially biodegradable plastic film for labeling beverage bottles. Gunze currently makes film for the food industry as well as providing a transparent polypropylene plastic wrap, which is used to package a variety of retail and consumer goods. This expansion is expected to create 30 new jobs.

MKK Technologies Incorporated (MKK) (Livonia, Michigan) was awarded the general contracting contract for the expansion. MKK provides design/build, general contracting, construction management and preventive maintenance services for new and existing clients.

Gunze Limited, a $1.6 billion clothing manufacturer, currently has plants located in Belgium and Japan. Their line of business ranges from pantyhose, socks, pajamas, babywear manufacturing to manufacturing plastic films, electronic components, engineering plastics, and stacker-bundlers industrial machinery/molds to name a few. Gunze currently has approximately 4,000 employees in Japan and over 3,000 employees overseas. The company is currently listed on the Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya Stock Exchanges.

MKK, a wholly owned subsidiary of Maeda Corporation, a leading construction company in Japan with annual revenues around $4 billion, was first established in 1985 as a principal subcontractor for the Mazda Car Assembly Plant in Flat Rock, Michigan.
