Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--In April, regional customers and company officials from Hexion Specialty Chemicals Incorporated (Columbus, Ohio) opened a major resins manufacturing complex in Montenegro, Rio Grande do Sul State, Brazil. The facility will help serve the rapidly growing engineered wood products market in the southern area of the country.

The complex is in a 42-acre field and relies on cutting-edge techonolgy to guarantee environmental protection and safety, investment in which accounts for about 35% of the $60 million invested in the facility. This includes the recycling and reuse of waste streams, strict environmental control and monitoring systems. Hexion Quimica Industria e Comercio Ltda. (Curitiba, Parana State), Hexion's Brazilian subsidiary, operates the plant, which will directly employ 50 workers. The complex will have a capacity of 150,000 metric tons per year of formaldehyde and 450,000 metric tons per year of urea-formaldehyde resins.

Hexion Specialty Chemicals operates 94 manufacturing and distribution facilities in North America, Europe, the Asia-Pacific region and Latin America. With offices in Curitiba, Hexion Quimica Industria e Comercio operates four plants in Brazil, in Montenegro, Paulinia, Cotia and Curitiba.
