Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--According to India's Central Electricity Authority, the country has reached a significant milestone in its renewable energy journey, achieving nearly 200 gigawatts (GW) of installed non-fossil fuel capacity, including substantial contributions from solar and wind energy. This achievement is part of the country's broader renewable energy push, which aims to reach 500 GW of renewables by 2030.
The breakdown of installed renewable capacity includes 47.19 GW from wind power, 89.43 GW from solar power, 10.35 GW from biomass and co-generation, 5.07 GW from small hydro, and 0.60 GW from waste-to-energy. Additionally, India's large hydro plants contribute 46.92 GW, while the country's nuclear power, considered a clean energy source but not renewable, accounts for 8 GW.
According to the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, this progress has been bolstered by a record 16.4 GW of renewable energy capacity added in the first seven months of 2024--the highest since 2015.
