Industrial Info is tracking more than 1,800 active projects worth more than $135 billion in the U.S. Northeast region, which comprises Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and New York.
The Power Industry leads in project activity, with more than $60 billion in total investment value under various phases of development. Industrial Info is tracking more than $11 billion in power projects that are set to kick off for just this year in the region. Many of the capital projects in the region are set to take advantage of the abundant natural gas coming from the Marcellus Shale in Pennsylvania. For related information, see March 13, 2017, article - Industrial Market Outlook: More Than $11.5 Billion in Power Projects Planned in U.S. Northeast for 2017.
Among the largest Power Industry projects set to kick off in the region is the grassroot, natural gas-fired Beech Hollow Power Station in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania. Construction of the 1,054-megawatt (MW) combined-cycle plant is set to kick off in the fourth quarter of this year and take about two and half years to complete. The project has an estimated total investment value (TIV) $1.16 billion. Burns & McDonnell Incorporated (Kansas City, Missouri) is acting as engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) firm on the project, which is owned by Robinson Power Company LLC (Burgettstown). For more information, see Industrial Info's project report.
All eyes in the North American Chemical Processing Industry are focused on Shell Chemical Company's planned petrochemical complex in Pennsylvania, comprising an ethylene cracker with a polyethylene derivatives unit, to be located in Monaca, near Pittsburgh. The complex will be fed by ethane from shale gas producers in the Marcellus and Utica basins. Structural construction of the 1.5 million-metric-ton-per-year ethylene cracker is expected to kick off in the third quarter of this year, with completion in second-quarter 2020.
