Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial firms are lining up a record number of projects in the U.S. Southwest market region, which includes Arkansas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Texas, that are scheduled to begin construction during 2014. Spurred on by oil and gas development, industrial firms are investing heavily in oil and gas production, transmission, storage and refining facilities, as well as downstream chemical processing plants, looking to take advantage of inexpensive natural gas feedstock.
According to Industrial Info's North American Industrial Project Database, the Oil & Gas Production Industry leads the way with $48 billion in projects planned. The industry consists of oil & gas extraction facilities, gas fractionation and processing plants, gas-to-liquid plants, LNG export facilities, and NGL fractionation plants.
Enogex Incorporated (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma) has scheduled a February 2014 construction start for an expansion of a natural gas processing plant near Thomas, Oklahoma. The $90 million project will add a turbo expander unit to increase natural gas processing capacity by 140 million standard cubic feet per day.
The Chemical Processing Industry is second with $32 billion planned. INEOS Phenol Incorporated (Rolle, Switzerland), in a joint venture with Sasol Limited (NYSE:SSL), is evaluating the possibility of constructing a 1 billion-pound-per-year bimodal, high-density polyethylene plant at the company's olefins complex in La Porte, Texas. If approved, construction could begin during the fourth quarter of 2014.
