Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Iraq's cement sector is expecting steady growth amid a resurgence in residential and infrastructure construction. Iraq's Minister of Industry and Minerals recently announced a plan to nearly double cement production.
As part of the ministry's five year plan, Iraq cement manufacturers aim to exceed 40 million tons of domestic production by 2028, compared with the current 25 million tons. The ministry is calling for expansions to existing plants and the entry of new players in the Iraqi market.
The International Finance Corporation (IFC), which is part of the World Bank, recently announced financing of up to US$130 million for Al-Douh Iraqi Company for Cement Industries (Al Khinaq, Iraq). The long-term debt package will enable Al-Douh to expand its cement production capacity to 3 million tons by the end of 2025.
