Large Compressor and Pump Package Orders for Oil & Gas Sector Increase to All-Time High

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). The number of compressor and pump package orders in the energy sector has increased greatly over previous years’ level due to increased activity in the oil & gas production, transmission and storage sector. Industrial Info is currently tracking the progress of 572 compression and pump units in various stages of planning, engineering and construction in North America. These 572 units represent approximately 5,907,671 horsepower and each unit averages 10,328 horsepower in size.

These new units are in the precommissioned (planned, engineered or under construction) stages, and the number will most likely grow in size as new pipeline, production and storage schemes unfold in the energy sector. The total population of prime movers is sectioned off into aeroderivative & heavy frame turbines, electric motors, and internal combustion units. The 572 drives break down into 85 areoderivative turbines, 128 heavy frame turbines, 182 electric motors, and 169 internal combustion engines.

As far as geography is concerned, the Southwest has the highest number of projected units with a total of 134 followed by the Rocky Mountains with 116 projected units and Western Canada and the Southeast regions with 91 and 47 units, respectively. There are total of 469 units planned for the U.S. and 104 planned for Canada. The three largest manufacturers of the prime movers are Solar Turbines with 109 units, Caterpillar with 101 units, and GE Power Systems with 37 units.
