McLane Set to Break Ground on Refrigerated Distribution Center Expansion in Georgia

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--McLane Company Incorporated (Temple, Texas), a wholly owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Incorporated (NYSE: BRK.A and BRK.B), plans to break ground next Monday on a refrigerated food distribution center expansion in Athens, Georgia. McLane operates a 265,000-square-foot dry and refrigerated distribution facility at 300 Highway 29 North in Clarke County and plans to construct a 100,000-square-foot addition to make space for more dry storage. The new building will include ammonia refrigeration, racking and docking space. The project schedule calls for the building addition to be completed and ready to receive products by October 2008.

McLane has contracted Construction Management Technology Incorporated (Addison, Texas) as the design-build contractors. Construction Management, acting as the general contractor, will subcontract all trades and services.

McLane provides distribution services throughout the United States, delivering food and non-food products to more than 50,000 customer locations, including the convenience store, drug store, mass merchandise, quick service restaurant and movie theater industries. The company operates 19 grocery distribution divisions and 18 foodservice distribution centers, as well as an industry-specific software company.
