Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Inc; Houston, Texas). Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing (3M) (St. Paul, MN) (NYSE:MMM) will close their Bristol, Pennsylvania manufacturing plant in late 2001 because of plant inefficiencies. The plant, which was built in the late 1950's, employed as many as 1,000 people but has since been reduced down to 140 employees. The products currently being manufactured at the site include fire barrier caulking and foam products and filament tape. These products will not be discontinued. 3M plans to dismantle equipment and transfer these product lines to their Springfield, Missouri and Greenville, South Carolina plants.
Established in 1902, 3M manufacturers pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes, abrasives, and specialty chemicals, electrical and telecommunication products, medical devices, office supplies and major automotive parts.
