Monadelphous Wins $680 Million Mechanical Contract on the Ichthys LNG Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources Australia (Perth, Australia)--Monadelphous Group (ASX:MND) (Perth, Australia) today announced a contract win, worth about $680 million, on the Ichthys LNG project, which is operated by INPEX Corporation (TYO:1605) (Tokyo, Japan). The scope of work is for mechanical construction across the downstream Ichthys LNG project site at Blaydin Point, near Darwin in the Northern Territory.

Monadelphous will mobilize to site this year and expects to have the work complete around June 2016. Piping, mechanical and structural steel erection for the Ichthys project utility and offsite area is to be incorporated into the work scope.

JKC Joint Venture, which is serving as the downstream engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor on the Ichthys LNG project, awarded the contract to Monadelphous. The JKC Joint Venture is made up of JGC Corporation (TYO:1963) (Tokyo, Japan), KBR Incorporated (NYSE:KBR) (Houston, Texas) and Chiyoda Corporation (TYO:6366) (Yokohama, Japan).

This is the second contract awarded to Monadelphous on the Ichthys project. Monadelphous' pipeline business, Monadelphous KT Pipelines, won a $90 million contract for construction of an onshore natural gas export pipeline. This project is currently in the planning and scheduling phase. The scope of work comprises detailed design, procurement, construction, testing and handover of 7 kilometres of 42-inch onshore natural gas export pipeline, approximately 3 kilometres of 12-inch fuel gas pipeline, along with associated facilities.

The Ichthys LNG project consists of the development of offshore facilities at the Ichthys field in Browse Basin, including a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) unit for the treatment and storage of condensate; a semi-submersible central processing facility; umbilicals, risers and flowlines; an onshore LNG production plant; and associated infrastructure. Connecting the upstream and downstream works is an 889-kilometre offshore and onshore pipeline to transport natural gas from the fields offshore Western Australia to the LNG production plant on the Northern Territory coast.

Monadelphous announced its latest contract award in a recent press release. "We are very pleased to be awarded such a significant contract and to be participating on one of Australia's world-class gas projects," Monadelphous Managing Director Rob Velletri said.

"We look forward to working together with JKC, to successfully deliver this important contract."

The Ichthys LNG project construction is ramping up. The project is expected to be complete and to begin delivery of LNG at the end of 2016.
