Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Navasota Energy Partners, LLC (Houston, Texas) has started construction on two 550-megawatt (MW) natural gas-fired combined cycle energy centers: the Colorado Bend Energy Center near Wharton, Texas and the Quail Run Energy Center located in the Odessa Business Park in Odessa, Texas. Construction started in May on both projects and commercial operations are scheduled for the summer of 2007. Phase I of both projects will each consist of 2-on-1 combined cycle power islands equipped with two 85 MW GE Power Systems MS7001EA combustion turbine generators, two Deltak heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) and a 105 MW GE Power Systems steam turbine generator.
The first phase will each generate a total of 275 megawatts of power once they have achieved full commercial operation. Construction for the second phase of the energy centers is scheduled to start during the summer of 2008. The new facilities will also utilize state-of-the-art emissions control technology including selective catalytic reduction (SCR) and an oxidative catalyst (CO) for the reduction of NOx emissions.
Navasota Energy, LLC is also studying the feasibility to covert the facilities into integrated gasification combined cycle (IGCC) facilities by adding solid fuel gasification technology. By converting to IGCC, Navasota will utilize Best Available Emissions Control Technology, environmental friendly solid fuels conversion, and will create co-products such as CO2 that can be sold to the oil production market for enhanced oil recovery.
PB Power (San Francisco, California), a subsidiary of Parsons Brinkerhoff (New York, New York), is providing the design and engineering for the projects. The construction management is being handled by Design Build Professionals, Incorporated (Matawan, New Jersey). PCL Teton Industrial Construction, Incorporated (Alpharetta, Georgia), a subsidiary of PCL Construction Group (Edmonton, Alberta), is handling the mechanical construction for the project. MMR Group (Baton Rouge, Louisiana) is overseeing the electrical and instrumentation work on the projects.
