Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Nunhems, a subsidiary of Bayer CropScience AG (Monheim, Germany), part of the Bayer Group (OTC:BAYRY) has started site preparation on a $20 million expansion of a seed-processing facility in Parma, Idaho. The company's plan calls for a 114,000-square-foot building addition for cold storage and processing areas that will include cleaning, drying and packaging equipment. Approximately 38,000 square feet will be used for refrigerated storage and maintained at 34 degrees Fahrenheit with 30% relative humidity. The facility processes, packages, and stores about 28 seed varieties but specializes in onions, carrots, lettuce, tomatoes, endives, cucumbers, and watermelons. More than 80% of Nunhems carrot business goes through the Parma facility.
