Nestle's Jonesboro Frozen Foods Plant Expansion Set for Completion This Month

(VTX:NESN) (Vevey, Switzerland) is close to completing a $60 million expansion project at its frozen foods plant in Jonesboro, Arkansas. The project consists of a 50,000-square-foot building addition, including bakery operations and a pizza production and packaging line. Nation Pizza Products (Schaumburg, Illinois) will operate the bakery. Construction began during the first quarter of this year and is now one and a half weeks away from completion. Production is slated to begin during the first quarter of 2009.

The original 325,000-square-foot facility, which currently houses production for Stouffer's, Lean Cuisine, and Hot Pockets frozen meals, was first completed in 2003 at a cost of $165 million and was the largest capital investment ever undertaken by Nestle. Subsequent expansions include the installation of a $19.7 million new production line in the summer of 2007 to make Hot Pockets.
