Researched by Industrial Information Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Industrial Info has learned from plant officials at Salem Nuclear Power Plant that workers had to reduce power to avoid an automatic trip. The plant is located in Hancock's Bridge, New Jersey.
The plant is 57% owned by PSEG Nuclear LLC, a subsidiary of Public Service Enterprise Group Incorporated (NYSE:PEG) (Newark, New Jersey), and 43% owned by Exelon Generation LLC, a subsidiary of Exelon Corporation (NYSE:EXC) (Chicago, Illinois).
Plant officials told Industrial Info that control room operators shut down the unit to avoid an automatic shutdown. Officials hope to have the unit up by the weekend.
The Salem reactors have a total generating capacity of 2,408 megawatts, when both are at full power.
