Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Four Corners Power Station, which is located in Fruitland, New Mexico, shut down its 755-megawatt (MW) Unit 5 on Tuesday, January 20, due to a leak in the superheat section of the boiler.

Plant officials said that they are performing a thorough investigation. They initially planned to return the unit to service on Friday, January 23, at 8 a.m., but discovered additional leakage during their analysis. They have begun making repairs and anticipate returning the unit to service on Saturday, January 24, if there are no further delays.

The plant has two operational units with a total capacity of 1,510 MW. Unit 4 remains in service.

Units 1 and 2 are owned by Arizona Public Service Company (APS) (Phoenix, Arizona), which also operates units 4 and 5; however, APS owns only 63% of units 4 and 5, with Public Service Company of New Mexico owning 13%, Salt River Project owning 10%, Tucson Electric Power owning 7%, and El Paso Electric owning 7%.
