New Zealand recently began a four-week lockdown to combat the growth of COVID-19. Steel mills, aluminium smelters and mining companies are awaiting clarity from the New Zealand's government whether they will be able to keep their facilities open.

OceanaGold has decided to suspend its Waihi Gold Mine operations earlier than it had previously planned. Initially, the Waihi Gold Mine was to be placed under care and maintenance in June this year, due to its projected end of life. OceanaGold is working with the government to determine the status of its other gold mines during the lockdown.
