Ningxia Daba Power Plant’s Phase III Project Receives Approval

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). The Phase III Expansion Project of Ningxia Daba Power Plant received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the top planner in China, on June 15, 2007.

The NDRC approved the construction of the Phase III Expansion Project in order to satisfy the demand to increase the load in the Northwest Power Grid, and to improve the stability of the Ningxia Power Grid and the reliability in power supply.

The project is located within the boundary of Qingtongxia city in Northwest China’s Ningxia Hui Nationality Autonomous Region. The project will be erected with two 600 MW sub-critical, coal-fired generating units, together with a flue gas desulfurization device. In addition, it will feature reserved space for future expansion. The power plant will consume about 3.2 million metric tons of coal, which will be supplied from the Ningdong Mining Zone via the current Dagu Special Railway built for the power plant. The project will be adopted with air-cooling units, and the supplement water supply will be taken from the Qingtongxia city sewage processing plant as well as the Yellow River. The project will be furnished with a high efficiency electrostatic dust removing system and flue gas continuous monitoring device, and be adopted with low nitrogen burning technology. The connection of the power plant to the grid will be built by the State Grid Corporation (Beijing, China), and the specific plan will be approved by the NDRC separately.

Total investment of the project will be $648 million; 20% of the total investment, namely about $130 million of the project, will be jointly invested by Datang International Power Generation Company Limited (Datang Power) (Beijing, China) (45%), Ningxia Power Generation Group Company, Limited (Ningchuan, China) (35%) and China Huadian Corporation (Beijing, China) (20%). The rest will be funded by a loan from the bank.
