Norwind Receives Environmental Approval for 260-Megawatt Windfarm in Peru

Researched by Industrial Info Resources Latin America (Córdoba, Argentina)--Norwind SAC (Bergen, Norway) recently received environmental permission to construct the 260-megawatt (MW) El Cerro Chocan windfarm and a 60-kilovolt transmission line in the Piura region of northern Peru.

The $585 million facility will be constructed in two phases. The first phase will entail construction of between 30 and 75 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 2 MW. This phase will take approximately a year to complete. The second phase will add 55 to 100 wind turbines, to reach a total power output of 260 MW. The project is scheduled to be operational by 2014.
