PRODUCTION
Cenovus Increases Upstream Production, Downstream Throughput - Cenovus Energy Incorporated (NYSE:CVE) (Calgary, Alberta) narrowly missed analysts' estimates for quarterly profit, but reported higher production and refinery throughput volumes for fourth-quarter 2023. Upstream production rose to 808,600 barrels of oil equivalent per day (boe/d) in the fourth quarter from 806,900 boe/d a year earlier, while downstream throughput increased to 579,100 barrels per day (BBL/d) from 473,500 BBL/d. Venture Global Seeks Construction Extension for Louisiana LNG Plant - Venture Global LNG (Arlington, Virginia) has sought a one-year permit extension to complete construction of its Calcasieu Pass liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in Louisiana, in a filing Thursday with the U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC). An existing authorization to complete work on the plant expires February 21, but the company has said its startup, or commissioning phase, will not be concluded until late this year. Venture Global LNG wants FERC to either issue a one-year extension, or rule that the authorization has been met because the plant's liquefaction units are functioning, according to the request. Venture Global has said faulty power equipment has delayed the facility's commissioning. (Reuters)
CORPORATE
Occidental Says CrownRock Deal Delayed by FTC - Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY) (Houston, Texas) on Thursday said the U.S. Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) second request for information on the acquisition of shale producer CrownRock Minerals (Midland, Texas) has pushed back the deal's closing date until later in 2024. "We are progressing and hope to be able to close in the second half of this year," said Occidental Chief Executive Officer Vicki Hollub. (Reuters)
