Olin Corporation to Construct Ammunition Plant in Mississippi

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Olin Corporation (NYSE:OLN) (Clayton, Missouri), a diversified manufacturer of ammunition (through its Winchester segment) and chlor-alkali products, plans to construct a grassroot ammunition manufacturing facility in Oxford, Mississippi.

The facility will consist of 470,000 square feet of manufacturing space and 30,000 square feet of office space. The project has an estimated total investment value of $100 million. The building will be adjacent to an existing Winchester facility in Oxford.

Olin received substantial incentives for the project. The Mississippi Development Authority provided $25 million to Lafayette County to construct the building, which will be publicly owned, for Olin.

Construction of the plant is proposed to kick off in February 2011 and be completed in late summer. The project, however, comes at a price. Olin will be relocating its Winchester Centerfire Operations and 1,000 jobs from Illinois to the new facility.

Olin Corporation has chosen H&M Company Incorporated (Jackson, Tennessee) as the design-build firm for the project.
