Pall Corporation Secures Critical Contract for Habshan-5 Natural Gas Treatment Plant

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Pall Corporation (NYSE:PLL) (Port Washington, New York), a leading global filtration solution provider, recently announced that it has secured a contract to supply filtration and purification systems for the Habshan-5 natural gas treatment project being developed by Abu Dhabi Gas Industries Limited (GASCO) (Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates). The contract, which has been awarded by a joint venture formed by JGC Corporation (TYO:1963) (Tokyo, Japan) and Tecnimont S.A. (BIT:MT) (Rome, Italy), will include Pall Corporation's patented Ultipleat coreless and high-flow filters; activated carbon systems; SepraSol liquid and gas coalescer units; and high-flow porous metal elements with pressure media filters.

According to Greg Collins, the president of Pall Energy, a subsidiary of Pall Corporation, the company's products will help the Habshan-5 project protect pipelines, purify gas, and enhance the performance of acid gas treatment units. The SepraSol coalescer solution will help large-scale separation in complex oil and gas-processing applications. In comparison to traditional techniques, this process eliminates a larger volume of liquid-per-unit area from high-flow gas. At the Habshan-5 gas treatment plant, the inlet gas will be treated in the SepraSol coalescer, in units that have been treated with amines and glycol.

The company's Ultipleat coreless and high-flow filters will help to improve efficiency optimization; to improve operations of acid gas units; to remove high volumes of particles; and will result in a reduction of cartridge charges. Implementation of fluid management solutions will protect the processes, improve equipment efficiency, and considerably reduce operating costs and waste.

In July 2009, construction began on the Habshan-5 treatment plant, which is part of the integrated gas development (IGD) project. The IGD proposes to increase Abu Dhabi's offshore gas production capability by 1 billion cubic feet per day. GASCO has been selected to undertake construction of the processing plants, utilities and other facilities. The gas, which will be procured from Khuff and Umm Shaif fields, will be used for power generation in Abu Dhabi and the neighboring emirates. The gas treatment project at Habshan, which is expected to be completed during the third quarter of 2013, will produce 5,000 tons per day of liquid sulfur, and 900 million standard cubic feet per day of gas. GASCO is developing its fifth gas-processing facility at Habshan in the United Arab Emirates.

The engineering, procurement and construction contract for the Habshan-5 gas treatment plant was split and awarded to JGC Corporation and Tecnimont. While Tecnimont secured the contract for the main plant complex, JGC Corporation was awarded the contract for allied infrastructure. Fluor Corporation (NYSE:FLR) (Irving, Texas) was selected as the front-end engineering and design consultant. In January this year, Kharafi National Company (Safat, Kuwait) secured a $700 million contract to undertake electro-mechanical, civil and electric works for the project.

Pall Corporation is a leading name in purification, filtration and separation solutions. In the last six decades, the company has provided environmentally friendly, safe and complex solutions to customers in health care, oil and gas, refineries, veterinary medicine, and electronics. In 2009, the company, which employs 10,000 people, recorded revenues of $2.3 billion. In a related development, Pall Corporation has been selected by Rolls Royce plc (LSE:RR) (London, England) to provide filtration solutions for its latest range of Trent XMB commercial aviation engines. The engine will be used in the advanced A-350 range of aircrafts developed by Airbus S.A.S. (Toulouse, France). The first Trent XMB engine will begin service in 2013. Pall Corporation will provide Ultipleat filters with laid-over plates, which will help in maximizing surface area. The filters will work effectively in both low-pressure and high-pressure, help in improving cleanliness of fluids, and enhance engine efficiency and dependability.
