Panama Announces Power and Energy Tenders for 2025-2030
The government of Panama aims to secure electricity supplies for the next few years in an effort to avoid price increases

Written by Amir Richani for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Panamanian government has launched tenders to secure its power and energy supply for 2025-2030. Its objective is to ensure its supply and promote renewable energy electricity generation for years.
The contracts will be granted for up to 60 months, and companies will have until December 10 to submit their tenders. For companies joining the competition, the supply contracts will begin on March 1, 2025.
The tenders will be divided into two types: one for power and another for energy. The power contracts will be open to all types of power plant technologies currently available for supply or at the operational stage.
Meanwhile, only hydroelectric, wind, solar and biomass power plants will be able to participate in the energy tender. Unlike in the power contracts, these facilities could be in the testing phase, ready for supply or at the operational stage.
The monthly prices for power have been set at US$8.5 per kilowatt, while for energy, the prices range between US$60 and US$80 per megawatt-hour, depending on the month.
According to the government's statement, these tenders were launched to avoid hikes in electricity prices.
Panama Secretary of Energy Secretary of Energy Juan Urriola said, "With this resolution, the government of Panama ensures a rapid and effective response, protecting users from unexpected rate increases and ensuring the continuity of the electric service in the coming years."
