Pequiven Advances Polypropylene Plant at Jose Petrochemical Complex in Venezuela

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Venezuela's state-owned petrochemicals company Petroquimica de Venezuela S.A. (Pequiven) (Valencia) is advancing with plans to construct a propane dehydrogenation unit at the propylene plant in the Jose Petrochemical Complex in Anzoategui state. Construction of the unit will have a total investment value of about $460 million.

The new facility is designed to produce up to 455,000 metric tons per year of propylene. A consortium led by Odebrecht (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) was awarded a contract to provide engineering services. The contract is expected to be converted into a turnkey engineering, procurement and construction contract, with Odebrecht responsible for the construction work.

Currently, preliminary engineering is under way, and construction firms will be selected by April 2009. Construction kickoff is planned for June 2009, with project completion expected by the fourth quarter of 2011.

This project is part of Pequiven's $21 billion investment plan for 2007-13, which is aimed at consolidating industrial developments in its petrochemical complex in Jose, renovate the Moron Petrochemical Complex, strengthen the El Tablazo petrochemical complex, and develop petrochemical complexes in Guiria, Navay and Paraguana.
