Written by Amir Richani for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The Peruvian Energy Ministry said it expects 507 megawatts (MW) of renewable power generation to be added to the National Electric Interconnected System (SEIN) this year. The new capacity will come from two solar farms and two wind projects.
The first project is the Clemesi solar facility in Moquegua. With an installed capacity of 114 MW, the project is composed of more than 220,000 solar panels across 270 hectares. Enel Peru constructed the project and received approval to begin commercial operations in early March. Following the startup of Clemesi, Enel cemented its position as Peru's largest renewable energy provider, generating 392 MW, or 36% of the nation's solar and wind electricity.
Another project launched by Enel is the Wayra II wind project Expansion in Ica. The project will have a capacity of 177 MW. Subscribers can click here for the project report and click here for the plant profile.
The windfarm is an extension of the 132.2-MW Wayra I project, which began operations in 2018. The windfarm generates enough electricity to power more than 483,000 households.
The third project (solar) is located in Arequipa. Industrial Info is tracking 25 renewable energy projects in Arequipa, worth US$3.76 billion. Subscribers can click here for the list of project reports.
The San Juan windfarm, also located in Ica, adds 135.7 MW of electricity production, according to the owner. San Juan was constructed by Acciona Energia, marking the company's first renewable energy project in Peru. The windfarm began operations in December, according to Acciona Energia. Last year, Peru increased its solar and wind energy power generation by 16.44% and 21.93%, respectively, compared to 2022.
