Written by Amir Richani for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Brazilian state-owned energy giant Petrobras (NYSE:PBR) (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil), announced this week the first oil from the Maria Quiteria floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel in the Jubarte oil field offshore the Espirito Santos province in the Campos Basin. The facility has the capacity to produce 100,000 barrels of oil per day (BBL/d) and process up to 5 million cubic meters of gas.
The unit will be connected to eight producing and eight injectors wells in Jubarte, which, according to information from the Brazilian National Agency of Petroleum Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), has maintained a monthly pace between 110,000 BBL/d and 140,000 BBL/d so far this year.
Petrobras is the sole owner of Jubarte, and in 2019, it signed an agreement with ANP to extend its concession at the asset until 2056. The Jubarte oil field is part of the Parque das Baleias oil and gas cluster offshore Espiritu Santo state, which is also composed of the Baleia Anã, Cachalote, Caxaréu, Pirambú and Mangangá fields. Currently, platforms P-57, P-58, and the Cidade de Anchieta FPSO operate in the Parque das Baleias cluster.
Maria Quiteria was initially projected to begin operations in 2025, according to Petrobras' 2024-2028 strategic plan. Overall, the company foresees 14 FPSOs beginning production during that period. Only the Mal D. de Caxias FPSO in the Mero field was expected to come online in 2024, though the company has decided to give Maria Quiteria an early start.
According to Petrobras, the FPSO "is equipped with technologies to reduce emissions with greater operational efficiency and a reduction of around 24% in operational greenhouse gas emissions."
