Phase II of Power Plant in Central China Completed Ahead of Schedule

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Unit 4 of Huainan Pingwei No. 2 Electric Power Company Limited's (Anhui, China) Phase II project went into commercial operation on November 24, 2007, completing the phase ahead of schedule. Pingwei power plant's Phase II is a wholly owned subsidiary of China Power International Development Limited (Hong Kong, China), a flagship of China Power Investment Corporation (CPI) (Beijing). As an important project in the nation's 11th five-year plan, and for the transmission of power from Anhui to eastern China, the project includes the first batch of 600-megawatt (MW) units built by CPI. The plant is furnished with two supercritical 600-MW coal-fired units, along with flue gas desulphurization devices. Construction began in March 2005, upon approval from the National Development and Reform Commission.

The 168-hour trial operation of Unit 4 had begun on November 17, 2007. During the trial operation, the unit's maximum load reached 650 MW, or a load rate of 101%. The plant's coal consumption and plant service power consumption are advanced, and the design, major instruments, protection devices and automatic control devices are operating at 100%. The unit has been in stable operation, and various economic and technical indicators are at an excellent level.

China Power International plans to construct two 1000-MW supercritical coal-fired units in Phase III of the Pingwei power plant. Various pre-stage preparations are going smoothly.
