Platte River Power Authority Completes $40 Million Expansion Project at the Rawhide Power Station

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Platte River Power Authority (Fort Collins, Colorado) has begun full commercial operation for the $40 million plant expansion project at the Rawhide Power Station located in Wellington, Larimer County, Colorado.

Construction for the project started in January 2004 and was completed in May 2004. Platte River Power Authority began full commercial operation for the project in July 2004. The project consisted of adding a new 85-megawatt dual fuel GE Power Systems MS7001EA combustion turbine generator to the 285 megawatt power station. The new turbine will operate in a peaking capacity, generating power during the summer and winter months and boosting Rawhide's generating capacity to 370 megawatts.

Black & Veatch Corporation headquartered in Overland, Kansas performed the engineering for the expansion. The Industrial Company (TIC) based in Steamboat, Colorado were the general contractors on the project.
