Plum Point Power Station Under Construction in Arkansas

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas). Construction started last week on LS Power’s (East Brunswick, New Jersey) 600-megawatt Plum Point Power Station located in Osceola, Arkansas.

The facility will be fuelled by a domestic low-sulfur Powder River Basin bituminous coal-fired boiler, which will keep electricity rates low and stable, with a steam turbine/generator set plus auxiliary components. The pulverized boiler is designed with the most advanced emission controls such as selective catalytic reduction system, flue gas desulfurization (scrubber) unit, along with a coal handling system, conveyor, crusher, unloading facilities with associated equipment to manage the coal.

With completion scheduled for early 2010, the Plum Point plant is being built under a turnkey contract (engineering procurement, and construction) with Plum Point Power Partners, which is a joint venture of Zachry Construction (San Antonio, Texas), Black & Veatch Construction (Overland Park, Kansas), and Gilbert Central Corporation (Omaha, Nebraska), an affiliate of Kiewit Construction (Omaha, Nebraska).

The plant will be owned and operated by Plum Point Energy Associates, LLC (East Brunswick, New Jersey), a wholly-owned subsidiary of LS Power.
