Researched by Industrial Info Resources India (Delhi, India)--Qatar Petroleum (QP) has kicked off its Dukhan natural gas pipeline project in the Dukhan gas field, on the western coast of Qatar. The 42-kilometer (km) gas pipeline, with a diameter of 12 inches, originates from the Dukhan field. Upon being operational, it will transport 25 million standard cubic feet per day of gas to Messaied city, which is approximately 50 km south of Doha.
Black Cat Engineering & Construction (Qatar, Doha) has bagged the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the pipeline, which is slated for completion in October 2013. The contract involves front-end engineering design (FEED) services for the replacement of the existing pipeline from Dukhan to the NGL-1 (natural gas liquid) plant, located inside Mesaieed Industrial City, with a new pipeline that is expected to provide reliable and uninterrupted means of transmission of raw NGL from Dukhan to the Mesaieed NGL-1 plant.
"Construction of the pipeline will follow existing utility rights-of-way wherever possible to minimize environmental impacts," said a Qatar Petroleum statement. "Two of Dukhan's four zones have gas caps. There are four wells which can produce gas from them."
Qatar currently has a combined output for oil and condensate ranging between 1.45 million to 1.5 million barrels per day. The company has enhanced the production capacity of the Dukhan field to 350,000 barrels per day from 335,000 barrels per day. Plans also are afoot to enhance its condensate output in the coming years, during which it expects the condensate output to exceed that of crude oil.
Dukhan oil-field, located in the West of Doha city, extends over an area of approximately 80 km by 8 km. Dukhan Field has four reservoirs-- Khatiyah, Fahahil, Jaleha and Diyab. The first three of these are oil reservoirs; while the recently developed Diyab field contains non associated gas and it is estimated to have around 2 billion barrels of crude oil reserve. The Diyab reservoir lies on the southern flank of Dukhan.
