Questar Pipeline Corporation Planning to Expand its Southern Gas System

Early scoping studies indicate that scenario one will entail the construction of 27-miles of new 24' diameter natural gas transmission pipeline

Researched by Industrialinfo.com (Industrial Information Resources, Incorporated; Houston, Texas). Questar Pipeline Corporation (Salt Lake City Utah), a subsidiary of Questar Corporation (Salt Lake City Utah) has recently closed its open season for new capacity on its southern system.

Questar proposed two scenarios for the expansion, the first being a capacity increase of 105 mmscfd and the second an increase of 300 mmscfd. After evaluating the bids for new firm service, the smaller of the two scenarios was selected.

Early scoping studies indicate that scenario one will entail the construction of 27-miles of new 24" diameter natural gas transmission pipeline from Whitmore Park to Questar's Oak Springs Compressor Station in Utah. Questar also plans several compressor station modifications as well new compression additions. Questar will reconfigure the existing compressors and add new turbine-based compression at the Oak Springs Station, construct a new compressor station at Whitmore Park utilizing a single turbine compressor set and add two internal combustion reciprocating compressor sets to the Greasewood Station.

Questar expects to file with the FERC in the last quarter of 2003 and begin construction on the Southern System Expansion in early 2005. When completed in November 2005, the $50 million plus expansion project will create new delivery interconnections with MidAmerica's Kern River system, Kinder Morgan's Colorado Interstate Gas (MS 101) & TransColorado systems and William's Northwest Pipeline system.
