RATCH-Australia Invests in Australia's Renewable Energy Future
Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding plc (RATCH) (Bangkok, Thailand) was established in 2000 and is currently Thailand's largest independent power producer.
Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Perth, Australia)--Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding plc (RATCH) (Bangkok, Thailand) was established in 2000 and is currently Thailand's largest independent power producer. RATCH has been increasing its involvement in Australia's power generation assets and is currently planning to invest heavily in new wind power projects in Australia through its newly created subsidiary RATCH-Australia Corporation (Sydney, Australia).
RATCH-Australia, originally known as Transfield Services Limited (Sydney, Australia), has identified Australia's future clean energy policies as an opportunity to expand its local renewable energy portfolio. Currently, Ratchaburi Electricity is close to completing an $811 million acquisition of Transfield Services Infrastructure Fund, and by June 2012 will have an 80% share in the Sydney-based company.
RATCH-Australia operates five windfarms and three natural gas-fired power plants across Queensland, Victoria and New South Wales, and has a number of grassroot projects in development.
Industrial Info is currently tracking seven wind energy projects currently under development by RATCH-Australia, ranging in size from 40 MW to 210 MW in capacity and totalling more than $1.6 billion in total investment value. The two most advanced projects are the Mount Emerald windfarm and the Collector windfarm.
RATCH-Australia, with local landowners, is currently revising its development application for the grassroot Mount Emerald windfarm. The 210-MW windfarm will utilize 70 3-MW wind turbine-generators to supply renewable energy to the grid in Queensland. RATCH-Australia expects a final decision to proceed by the second quarter of 2013 and, if everything goes as planned, the windfarm is scheduled to come online in early 2015.
RATCH-Australia is in the permitting process for the 201-MW Collector windfarm and expects the approval process to be completed by the first quarter of 2013, with construction to follow soon after. The windfarm will utilize 68 3-MW wind turbines and is scheduled to come online in 2014.
