SEPCO3 Completes Generator Rotor Erection for Unit 1 of Huadian Laizhou Coal-fired Project

Researched by Industrial Info Resources China (Beijing, China)--Following the successful closing of the steam turbine on March 16, Shandong Electric Power Construction No. 3 Company (SEPCO3) (Weifang, Shandong), a subsidiary of Shandong Electric Power Construction Corporation (SEPCO) (Jinan, Shandong), completed the generator rotor erection for Unit 1 in Phase I of Huadian Laizhou coal-fired power plant on June 6. This marks that the project has achieved another important milestone, according to SEPCO.

In order to ensure the smooth erection of the generator rotor, the Laizhou Project Office of SEPCO3 has created a detailed working plan. The lifting of the generator rotor kicked off at 9 a.m., and the rotor was successfully erected onto its final position on 11:30 a.m. Successful completion of the rotor erection indicates that the erection for the main body of the steam turbine-generator has been completed, which has paved a firm foundation for the works in the next stage.

The Huadian Laizhou power plant is the first coal-fired power plant with 1,000-megawatt (MW) units planned in Shandong province. The power plant plans to have eight 1,000-MW units, using of the tidal flats in the saline land of coastal Shandong as its site. In Phase I, two 1,000-MW ultra-supercritical coal-fired units a desalination plant will be built in Phase I.

The project received approval from the National Development and Reform Commission in January 2010. The construction kickoff ceremony was held on March 20, 2010. According to the schedule, the first unit of the project will begin operation by the end of this year, and both units in Phase I will begin operation in the first quarter of 2013. Upon completion, the project will be able to generate about 10 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity for the North China Power Grid every year.
