Researched by Industrial Info Resources Europe (Galway, Ireland)--Shell Deutschland Oil GmbH (Hamburg, Germany), a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell plc (NYSE:RDS.A) (The Hague, Netherlands), is finishing plans for a minor turnaround to be performed at the company's 110,000-barrel-per-day (BBL/d) refinery in Hamburg.
The three-week turnaround is scheduled to begin May 8, 2011, and will include a catalyst change-out for the 18,200-BBL/d Platformer Unit, as well as inspection and regular repairs for units such as the gasoline and benzene splitter, lube oil hydrotreaters 1, 2 and 3, and others. Expectations are to have all processing units back online by late May.
In 2009, Shell announced that it would begin selling the company's smaller production facilities around the world to concentrate on larger production sites. In Germany, the company planned to sell the Hamburg Refinery and the 92,000-BBL/d Heide Refinery.
After two years of failed attempts to sell the Hamburg Refinery, Shell decided to find a buyer for its base oil manufacturing facility. Meanwhile, the company is continuing its operations in the refining area, keeping production up until the second quarter of 2012. By that time, if an agreement with a new owner has not been obtained, production at the facility will be permanently shut down.
