Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--South Carolina presents a broad scope of industries with projects underway, ranging from Food & Beverage to Pulp & Paper to Industrial Manufacturing. Industrial Info is tracking more than $4.3 billion in projects under construction in the state.

The Industrial Manufacturing Industry, thanks largely to the automotive sector, leads the state in terms of project value.

One of the state's largest projects under construction is Walmart Incorporated's (NYSE:WMT) (Bentonville, Arkansas) grassroot fresh and frozen food distribution center in Lyman. Construction on the 720,000-square-foot facility kicked off earlier this summer. The state-of-the-art facility will boast the latest in robotics and automated material-handling systems for efficient operation. According to local news media, the facility will be Walmart's largest grocery distribution center to date, and the combination of human and machine processing will be able to move two times more product than a traditional grocery store distribution center. The center is expected to open in 2024. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Food & Beverage Project Database can click here for the detailed report.

First Quality Enterprises Incorporated (Great Neck, New York) is betting that demand for tissue products will remain strong and is constructing a 350,000-square-foot building addition at an existing mill in Anderson, South Carolina, that will house a 70,000- to 80,000-ton-per-year through-air-dried tissue machine to increase production capacity. Construction kicked off late last year and is expected to be completed in the coming months. Jacobs Engineering Group Incorporated (NYSE:J) (Dallas, Texas) has provided engineering services on the project. The automotive sector also is a strong player in South Carolina's project activity. Examples of projects include Robert Bosch GmbH's (Gerlingen, Germany) upgrade to its automatic transmission manufacturing plant in Gray Court, about 75 miles northwest of Columbia. The project entails constructing a new production line at the plant, which currently produces about 1.2 million transmissions per year. The new line will produce the ZF Powerline eight-speed automatic transmissions, designed for buses, heavy-duty pickups and medium-duty commercial vehicle trucks. Construction kicked off earlier this year and is expected to be completed in early 2023. Subscribers to Industrial Info's Industrial Manufacturing Project Database can click here for the report.

Bosch also is underway with the upgrade of its automotive plant in Charleston, where a new production line is being added to build electrified powertrains for passenger cars and commercial vehicles. The project is expected to wrap up next summer. Subscribers can click here for more details.

South Carolina is no stranger to Power Industry projects either, with a few renewable energy projects underway, such as Duke Energy Corporation's (NYSE:DUK) (Charlotte, North Carolina) upgrade to the turbines at its Bad Creek hydropower plant. Solar power projects also are being seen in the state, such as Pine Gate Renewables LLC's (Asheville, North Carolina) Gunsight photovoltaic plant in Swansea, about 20 miles south of Columbia. The facility will use 300,000 solar modules to provide a nameplate generating capacity of 75 megawatts. Engineering, procurement and construction contractor Blue Ridge Power (Asheville) kicked off construction earlier this year and is expected to wrap up the project in late 2023.
