Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Privately held Southeast Renewable Energy LLC (Roswell, Georgia) has selected an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor to construct three 17.8-megawatt (MW) biomass-fired power production facilities in South Carolina.
Fagen Incorporated (Granite Falls, Minnesota), a leading U.S. company in biomass power plant construction, was selected as the lump-sum EPC contractor for the estimated $165 million construction of all three plants. Initial site work got under way in December of last year, so the projects could receive credit for starting some groundwork during the 2011 calendar year.
Plans are to create three identical 17.8-MW biomass power plants that will burn 280,000 tons of logging debris per year to produce renewable power. The "green power" will go to Santee Cooper (Moncks Corner, South Carolina) under an approved power purchase agreement.
The plants will be located in Kershaw County (Cassatt, South Carolina); Dorchester County (Ridgeville, South Carolina) and Allendale County (Allendale, South Carolina). All three projects are a mirror image of each other, on the same construction schedule, and will cost an estimated $55 million each to construct.
Construction is expected to be in full swing by April, and the plants are scheduled to come online by August 2013.
