Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--SunOpta Incorporated (NASDAQ:STKL) (Brampton, Ontario) is moving forward with plans to build a plant in Modesto, California, that will produce and package organic aseptic soymilk and other aseptic beverages. SunOpta has started the process of turning a 180,000-square-foot former fruit cannery into a production and packaging facility for soy milk, brewed tea and almond milk. The project's schedule calls for the facility to be operational by May 2009. The Modesto plant will produce soy milk for Costco, Starbucks and other food service companies.
SunOpta currently operates an aseptic packaging facility in Alexandria, Minnesota. When combined with full production of the Modesto facility, the company will have a total production capacity of about 300 million quarts per year of packaged soy milk and other beverages.
