The Worlds' Largest Activated Carbon Producer Plans To Expand Oklahoma Plant

Norit Americas, Incorporated (Atlanta, Georgia) plans a new activated carbon acid wash addition at its Pryor, Oklahoma plant (PEC ID# 08001009, Plant ID# 1009133). The expansion will consist of installing new equipment in order to produce a new acid washed activated carbon product and also building renovations.

The project is in the preliminary design phase and the intensity of the project will be determined on the results of product testing. The construction is estimated to start first quarter of 2004 and take twelve months to complete.

Norit is experimenting with different types of activated carbon applications to be utilized in the medical industries. The new innovative product will be applied, in a spraying manner, on equipment such as carbon filters and filters used in kidney dialysis in order to prevent bacterial growth.

Activated carbon is a chemical product used for purification in a wide range of substances in several industries. Some of these industries include water, food, mining, automotive, chemical, pharmaceutical and environmental industries.
