Tornados Spare Manufacturing Plants in Jasper County

Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The county of Jasper, Missouri, was hit by devastating tornados over the weekend, but most of the area's manufacturing plants were spared major damage. Most of the more than 30 manufacturing plants in the area suffered only minor damage caused by flying debris or roof damage from the high winds. Mid-America Precision Product's fabrication plant in Joplin suffered minor roof damage.

Plants in the area lost electricity, and some facilities were unable to operate, as employees were not able to make it to work. Continued power outages, low water pressure and a lack of natural gas also hindered the operation of some facilities. Power is expected to be restored today in hopes of returning to work later in the week.

In the wake of the devastation, some plants had no phone service and were not able to be confirmed as operational. The largest of these plants is Jasper Products LLC's beverage production facility in Joplin, which employs more than 350 people.

The eight plants located to the south of the storm in Newton County were spared any major plant damage and are operating normally.

The area is not out of the woods yet, as more storms are forecast for the rest of the week. The area looked like a war zone, with overturned vehicles, downed power lines, broken windows, downed trees and emergency officials scrambling to help. At the time of writing, 116 people have been reported dead, and the death toll is expected to rise as the debris is cleared.
