Toyotetsu America Incorporated (Somerset, Ky.) broke ground on a $13.3 million automotive metal parts plant in Owensboro, Kentucky. A Japanese based company, Hazama Corporation (Worthington, Ohio) was awarded the construction contract and civil site preparation began in August of this year. The 174,000 square foot plant will be located on a 43-acre parcel located on Airport Drive and Bullfrog Boulevard. Completion is slated for September 2002 and the plant will initially employ 120 people the first year.
The Owensboro plant will manufacture and assemble parts for the Toyota Tundra and Sequoia. Toyotetsu America built their first U.S. manufacturing plant in Somerset, Kentucky in 1997. Toyotetsu America is a privately held company and a wholly owned subsidiary of Toyoda Iron Works in Japan and had annual sales last year of $55 million.
