Trigen-Cinergy Solutions, LLC (White Plains, New York), a joint venture between Trigen Energy Corporation (NYSE: TGN) (White Plains, New York) and Cinergy Solutions (Plainfield, Indiana), an affiliate of Cinergy Corporation (NYSE: CIN) (Cincinnati, Ohio), are anticipating the commercial operation of the University of Maryland Cogeneration Plant located in College Park, Maryland in Prince George County.
Construction for the new plant started in January of 2001, and will be completed July 11, 2003. The plant consists of two natural gas fired 11.5 megawatt (MW) GE Power Systems PGT10B (single shaft) combustion turbines with heat recovery steam generators (HRSG) attached, and a 5 MW GE Power Systems steam turbine. By operating in a 2-on-1 combined-cycle configuration, the new university cogen will open itself to future fuel variation and plant flexibility, and is expected to generate savings of $120 million dollars over the 20-year contract that it has with Trigen-Cinergy Solutions.
