Reported by Annette Kreuger, Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--The University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) (Worcester, Massachusetts) has begun construction of the $450 million Albert Sherman Center in Worcester. Funding for the project came from the $1 billion Life Science Bill that Gov. Duval L. Patrick signed in June 2008.
Typically, naming rights for projects of this dollar value are given to philanthropic benefactors of great wealth (and donations); UMMS has decided to grant that honor to Albert Sherman, the Vice Chancellor for University Relations at the school. Sherman came to the university in 1989, and his primary responsibilities include federal and state relations.
The University of Massachusetts Building Authority (Boston, Massachusetts) is part of the project team, which includes William A Berry & Son (Danvers, Massachusetts) serving as construction manager at risk. PMA Consultants (Braintree, Massachusetts) is on board as project manager. Construction is expected to be completed by late 2012.
